Bright colors, African inspired, and unique are just a few words to describe Karin Schapiro's pottery pieces. As a native of South Africa, Karin's work exudes an African feel. Many pieces have African elements such as guinea fowl, zebras, and elephants. Each piece is hand built without the assistance of a wheel. Schapiro finds inspiration in each block of clay and creates each piece without a preconceived plan. She works with a variety of shapes and sizes and creates functional yet whimsical pieces. Schapiro hand-paints and glazes her own work incorporating colorful, intricate and visually compelling designs. All pieces are marked with Schapiro's notable signature "Ellie" elephant mark.

Schapiro lives in Sudbury, MA with her husband, two children and three dogs. She is a board member of Sudbury's Art Association.
